The East Wake Academy Eagles are learning that “flying high” is the most important thing to remember when playing. With an 8 to 5 record as of April 30th, the Eagles are “confident” about the future of their season. However, the four captains agree that it is more more important to remain humble and maintain good sportsmanship. East Wake Academy Junior and Co-Captain Kally Prescott states that “games against teams like Franklin Academy and Wake Preparatory Academy have been so meaningful to me because they teach us that regardless of how good the other team is, we always have the ability to work together and improve.”
Even though the Eagles lost against Franklin Academy and Wake Preparatory Academy, they took away valuable lessons, said Senior Co-Captain Kelli Toney. One of her favorite memories from the season was the game against Wake Preparatory Academy. Even though they lost 3 to 4, their teamwork was strong and that they “almost won,” even though they were one player short, she added.
Kelli commented that when the team loses, they often learn the best lessons. For example, their “most challenging game” against North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics taught them that it’s important not to give up. She recalls the teams were tied 0 to 0 and had to go into overtime. Even though they lost 0 to 2, she remembers their extreme effort.
A “huge win” for the Eagles was when they played against Raleigh Charter, says Kelli. Last year, Raleigh Charter had beaten the Eagles 9 to 0. This year, the girls made a comeback and defeated the team by one goal.
