Sebastian Lopez-Charvarria Scores a Full-Ride to UNC-Chapel Hill

Although a lot of people helped Sebastian out throughout the process of obtaining a scholarship, one person stood out to him the most: his mother. “Her strength, sacrifices, and constant belief in me pushed me to aim high and stay grounded. She always reminded me why I started.” 

Sebastian Lopez-Charvarria, a senior at East Wake Academy, earned admission to the UNC Scholars Program with the support of his family and a generous anonymous donation. Sebastian plans to major in Biology on the pre-med track so he can save lives in the medical field by becoming a surgeon. Sebastian states the scholarship will impact his future by allowing him to not stress about financial troubles and focus entirely on school rather than work. “It also opens the door to a network of mentorship and opportunities that will help me prepare for medical school and grow as a person, he said.

For those who hope to achieve what he has, he gives this advice: "Believe in yourself and keep pushing forward. It's not about where you start. It's about how far you're willing to go.”
