Coming off a successful baseball season, senior captain of the team, Dexter Benton, believes one of the team's biggest strengths is its leadership. Though there are six seniors, Benton also believes the juniors have a lot to offer, especially junior Robbie Johnston “He plays plays a major role in guiding the team, Benton said. He also added that Johnston is always reminding his fellow upper classmen that they are setting the example, so they should “provide a good example” and “stay positive.”

Johnston, however, said that leadership is shared across the roster. “I wouldn't say we have an overall team leader… we’re like a team full of leaders,” he commented. He explained that teammates “all want to lead each other and push each other to be better.” Johnston added that one of the main priorities is “keeping the team in check” and making sure players are not “getting in their head or being negative.”

Both players said that the team continued to  improve as the season progressed. Benton explained that the team has struggled at times to close out games after strong starts, with Johnston agreeing and adding, “We’re not finishing the game.” He pointed to a recent game in which they “scored like five runs in the second inning” but were unable to add any more for the duration of the game. However, both emphasized that the team is staying positive and learning from each experience.

Johnston said recent close losses have taught the team valuable lessons.
