Elizabeth Barnhill tries to bring the joy of reading to students through the annual K-12 book fair, held each fall and spring. This is more than just an event to purchase books. “The fair fosters a love for literature and creates a memorable experience for students and families alike,” said Barnhill. One of the highlights of the book fair is Parent Night, where families can shop together and enjoy special themed activities, such as Pajama Night. It adds an extra touch of fun, allowing children to wear their PJs while listening to bedtime stories.

“Running a book fair is a rewarding but demanding task,” the librarian says, as it requires careful planning and organization. From setup and breakdown to inventory management and coordinating volunteers, “every detail plays a role in its success,” said Barnhill. Tracking stock ensures that popular books remain available, so each child can enjoy literature.

The fair’s proceeds are used as Scholastic Dollars, which directly benefit the school. “Our Scholastic Dollars go towards things like Scholastic News, Art Magazines, classroom book sets, and STEAM materials. These funds help expand educational opportunities, ensuring students have access to engaging learning tools,” said Barnhill.

Through careful planning and dedication, the book fair not only provides students with new books but also can strengthen their connection to learning.
